The Kingdom of Obama

Posted by Adam Graham in : Christianity,Presidential Race 2008

From CNN, in an attempt to build up his vote among some Evangelicals, Obama goes too far by saying, ” I am confident that we can create a Kingdom right here on Earth.”

The quote shows incredible arrogance, the suggestion being that God’s kingdom can be established on Earth through political means, with Obama as the Earthly figurehead.

Whenever someone talks about establishing God’s kingdom on Earth, I say run, don’t walk (away from it). I don’t care whether it’s left or right. Now some might wonder why I’m saying this as it’s often thought this is thought to be the aim of religious conservatives.

It’s certainly not my aim, nor that of most religious conservatives I know of. Sinful human beings can never establish God’s Kingdom on Earth. What we can do is insure our government is just, honest, and allow people to freely serve God. Building God’s Kingdom through human effort is not only arrogantly ambitious but foolhardy at best.

Thus, whether someone’s on the left or the right and they talk about establishing God’s kingdom through political force, run, don’t walk. The end result is tyranny as men take power upon themselves that can only be justly and rightly executed by God.

In his comment, I believe you are being consciously disingenous to Obama (read “political”!. I think Barack’s intention was honorable even if he may be a little behind the times. God has already established his Kingdom, come to earth as it is in heaven, with Christ as it’s head. As believers, it is our task to witness to that fact by our hopeful expectation and actions, and through the faithful love of our neighbor and enemies. Can we participate in God’s ultimate plan for his Creation and his Kingdom? I think God believes we can…and apparently so does Obama!

It’s good to know there are still post-millenialists out there. Look, I think Obama is a presidential candidate for a secular post, and he’s very much talking about a Messiah State. That’s the type of government that Obama believes in if you examine his rhetoric and record.

The only Kingdom Democrats such as Obama genuinely wish to build acknowledges no absolute truth or power higher than the State’s and is decidedly anti-Christ (which note in my usage is an adjective and not a person). Dressing their hopes in Christian language is simply one aspect of a slight of hand they use to dupe a sickening number of believers into marching along with an anti-Christ agenda.

If it helps, the Republican leadership’s true agenda isn’t all that different from that of the Democrats. Either that or they are just corrupt, ineffective, and pathetic, take your pick. I’d like to see just about everybody in DC currently sent home myself.

On the Kingdom-Kingdom: as Christians, the Kingdom lives within us–we are to live as it’s citizens and ambassadors. That’s the already. But we cannot build it ourselves, our flesh and this world are too fallen. God Himself has built and will build that City, and He will fulfill the promise of scripture in His time. Our attempts to lead to the kind of disaster Abraham unleashed with his attempt to fulfill God’s promise by going into Hagar.

I just hope there’s a civilization left to be conquered when all the entities lining up to try their hand at fulfilling a certain bible prophecy are done contending. So far in the race we have the Statists, the Communists, Iran, Venezuela, North Korea, the Taliban, PLO/Hammas, the NeoNazis . . . Did I forget anyone?
