The Mayor Who Wasn’t There

Posted by Adam Graham in : Idaho Conservative, The

Boise City Councilman (and Mayoral Candidate) Jim Tibbs had an interesting press release:

Mayor Bieter Skips Four Neighborhood Forums in One Week  Boise- Today Jim Tibbs challenged Mayor Dave Bieter to engage neighborhood voters in discussion about the real issues facing

Boise.  The residents of the neighborhoods took their time to learn more about their government and Dave Bieter was a no-show,” said Tibbs. “Boiseans expect more from their Mayor and they will get more with Jim Tibbs.”  Recent neighborhood association sponsored candidate forums attended by Jim Tibbs with no attendance by Dave Bieter are:             October 24th  Collister Neighborhood Association            October 25th  Morris Hill Neighborhood Association             October 26th Harris Ranch Neighborhood Association             October 29th North End Neighborhood Association

According to event organizers Dave Bieter has declined to participate in the upcoming Boise School District Parent Community Advisory Council Mayoral Candidate Forum on November 1 at

Timberline

High School.

It  appears the Mayor has decided this election is over and gone into  a premature victory lap, expecting the Citizens of Boise:

1) Won’t know about his cavalier attitude

2) Won’t care about it.

Record low turnout or close to it is expected Tuesday. I hope for the sake of Jim Tibbs and more than that, the city of Boise, that the Mayor and prognosticators are proved wrong.  I’ve already voted early at City Hall and anyone else can vote early there during business hours between now and November 5th.

Update:

Brandi Swindell urges people to vote.

Update II:

Linked by Kevin Richert. In the comments of Kevin’s post is another interesting note. On the night of October 24th, when the Collister Neighborhood Association was holding its meeting, Dave Bieter was holding a fundraiser: Bowling for Bieter. Check the video on Bieter’s website.

I can’t explain the earlier absences, but I believe Bieter is attending a U.S. Conference of Mayors meeting in Seattle this week.

Curious timing for a mayors’ meeting, during election season. But it is certainly a legitimate absence.

I doubt Mayor Bieter would be there if it were a close election. Nor would he be bowling for Bieter.
