The Nastiest Campaign in Memory
Posted by Adam Graham in : Presidential Race 2008John McCain stumbled on the question of many houses he owned and Barack Obama pounced when it came out that McCain owned 7:

Apparently, unbeknownst to us, people have been losing their homes because John McCain has seven houses. Julie Fanselow applauded the ad along with many other liberals netwide. This brings up a question, “Whatever happened to post-partisanship?” Obama doesn’t look like the post-partisan candidate. He looks like an old-fashioned partisan one.
Not to be outdone, the McCain basically said, “You want to talk housing, we’ll talk housing. How about your mansion that you got with the help of a convicted felon?”

Folks, we are 2 1/2 months from the election and the campaign is already this nasty before the convention. This is escalated above anything I’ve ever seen. Heck, this is the first time, I’m aware of a press aide for a Presidential campaign using “frickin’” on the record. That’s even before you bring in the third party groups with this ad on Obama-buddy William Ayers:
(Hat Tip: Confederate Yankee.)
There’s part of me that will enjoy this. The part that enjoys things blowing up and fight scenes in movies. This looks to me like a campaign that will sink lower than any since the advent of the television age.
I can’t disagree with McCain’s tactics, indeed the only way he can hold the White House for the GOP is to expose Obama’s extremists ties, lack of experience, and Messiah complex.
And to rally the Hillary supporters and deflect these attacks, Obama must meanwhile turn one of the 15 most liberal Republicans in the Senate with a maverick reputation into a scary right wing extremist that’s a tool of big corporations. One of these men will be more successful.
In the end, though, we’ll all lose.
