The World’s Worst Vice-Presidential Advice
Posted by Adam Graham in : Presidential Race 2008Dick Morris and Eileen McGann have advice for John McCain in a bizarre little piece at Fox News:
For McCain, the pressing need is to lend excitement to his candidacy. His low key delivery (one often wonders if he is putting himself to sleep with his own speeches) does not provoke anything like the excitement that Obama does. He needs to go for a “WOW” in his choice of a vice president — like Mondale did in 1984 when he chose Geraldine Ferraro.
But didn’t Mondale lose in a spectacular 49 state landslide?
He lost, but it wasn’t Gerry’s fault.
So basically what Morris is saying is it may not have done anything last time, but why not try it again? Also, it’s debatable that Ferraro didn’t hurt the ticket given the distraction her and her husband’s financial disclosures meant.
McGann and Morris then give a list of VPs that could make most conservatives queasy: Condoleeza Rice, Colin Powell, or Joe Lieberman. Of the Lieberman ticket, McGann and Morris write:
McCain could be the first presidential candidate to run on a coalition ticket since Abraham Lincoln did it at the height of the Civil War in 1864.
And the net result was that Republicans worked to elect Lincoln and got nearly 4 years of Andrew Johnson. A bit of history Morris seems to have forgotten. Also, at this point, Morris is oblivious to the fact that McCain’s chief problem is a lack of money and a lack of foot soldiers that comes from a lack of conservative enthusiasm. If McCain were to take this advice, the results would be a conservative base that won’t do a darn thing when it comes to turning out the vote, and many may jump ship to Bob Barr.
My pal, David Oatney doesn’t like the fact that Karl Rove is advising the McCain campaign. Yet, we are reminded there are worse things that could have happened: Dick Morris could be advising.

Mike Huckabee and Sarah Palin are both good choices for the vice presidential running mate. These are two that I know are good.
There are many others, including many that I know nothing about. If one of these is chosen, I will have to investigate that person to decide if his/her presence on the ticket will snag my vote.
