The Hypocrisy of Comedy Central
Posted by Adam Graham in : ChristianityFrom all over the net, we have this news (NRO):
I’m not sure if it’s been reported yet, but for what it’s worth, I just got off the phone with a Comedy Central spokesman. I asked him about last night’s episode of South Park in which, at a moment right before the prophet Mohammed was supposed to make a cameo, the words, “Comedy Central has refused to broadcast an image of Mohammed on their network” appeared on the screen.
I asked him whether this truly was Comedy Central’s decision or whether this was just another gag (with South Park, you never know). He said:
They reflected it accurately. That was a Comedy Central decision.
Just in case there was any confusion, that settles it. Comedy Central censored the image.
Its all over the net, now. The big guns have come out a-firin’:

Don Surber sees a difference however between South Park’s portrayal of Christ and that of Mohammad:
Conservatives have bigger issues than whether some TV show is offensive enough to the Koran.
They flunk the test by refusing to acknowledge the not-so-subtle difference between depicting Jesus — whose picture is all over the place at Sunday school — and Mohammed, whose depiction even in a good light is verbotten.
Don misses the point. Yes, it is offensive to Muslims to portray Mohammad at all, he’s right, but the way South Park portrays Jesus is offensive to Christians.
What’s happened is that Trey Parker and Matt Stone have shown their bosses to be colossal hypocrites. Comedy Central is all about free speech, its all about being willing to offend everyone and anyone in the name of telling a joke.
There are exceptions. If the religion features a big time Hollywood actor like Tom Cruise, Comedy Central will kowtow. If it features a religion that burns things down and riots for showing image of Mohammad, somehow their courage disappears entirely.
Take on the LDS? Sure thing, outside of Idaho, Utah, and Wyoming Mormons are pretty well marginalized. We don’t mind being the network that has the Virgin Mary bleeding out her rear. We don’t mind making fun of Jesus Christ or the Pope, but if we get near one of those threatening religions, they deserve respect.
In the 21st Century while leftist Hollywood producers prattle on about peace and understanding, we find out that Hollywood is really a bunch of cowardly bullies, picking on religions that lack the media reach to respond effectively.
Its not that Islam deserves especially to have its feathers ruffled, rather its a matter of basic fairness. If the Comedy Central wants to ravage on religion, play fair. By kowtowing to Jihadists, the Hollywood left is proving its own cravenness, hypocrisy, and cowardice.
