The Mainstream Pro-Choice View, Part One
Posted by Adam Graham in : AbortionSomeone did one of those irritating non-responses to this piece. Most of it went off on a tangent. The poster CapnCanCanMan claims to represent the mainstream pro-choice opinion.
I’m not actually concerned about how Democrats and other “pro-choice” organizations handle their PR, but I do think those of us who believe in the necessity of abortion (the thoughtful ones, unlike the extreme example you choose to capitalize on) believe the real reason we need to allow it is this: to stem the tide of overpopulation.
Well, first of all the “Extreme Ones” write pieces in the New York Times about killing their children to avoid the horrors of Jumbo Jars of Mayonnaise, so I don’t know how much more mainstream you can get. Indeed, the rhetoric we hear is not “control the population” it is “woman’s right to choose”.
In the debates on this blog, I respond to arguments MADE not arguments not made or that somebody who thinks they’re mainstream thinks. Indeed, Capn, I rarely hear the old Population Bomb dragged out these days.
Like it or not, and whether you deem it immoral or not, the human race consists of a bunch of people barely able to contain their animal natures, and as such, can’t be trusted to keep from overpopulating this planet through abstinence alone.
Yeah, I saw all those signs at the pro-choice rally, “Save the World From Bimbos, keep Abortion Legal.” You’re right, that’s the mainstream view. I believe their argument is that we should trust women to make the choice of whether to destroy life. You’re saying, people are just a bunch of animals, barely holding on, barely able to stop from jumping in the sack with little capability for self-control or moral choice.
Do you realize how recently the Earth’s population was under 1 billion?
1804.
And population growth is EXPONENTIAL. Think about what that means: it is very likely inevitable that overpopulation and the scarcity of resources is going to be the downfall of this civilization — unless we allow people to make their own choices about whether they reproduce or not.
Wait a second, you just said people can’t be trusted to keep from overpopulating, now you’re going to trust people who can barely avoid jumping any member of the opposites sex with such an adult responsibility as “reproductive decision”. The argument you make is not for people to make the decision to kill their own children but rather the argument you’ve made is the same as has been made in China for Population control. If people are just animals, what if they don’t listen? Indeed, as growing numbers become convinced abortion is wrong, they have more children and less abortions. There goes all your grand schemes to control the human population, unless someone takes control
This is incredibly dangerous stuff. So dangerous, I’m not going to try and write an epic post on it. Come back for Part Two Tomorrow.
