The National Church Burning Crisis
Posted by Adam Graham in : ChristianityStacy Harp over at Persecution Blog has been doing some yeoman’s work in trying to report on the Alabama Church Burnings. I’m going to revisit this topic. She provided this fascinating link to an Article by Alice Smith and what truly shocked me is how much this church burning stuff is going on and the fact that there’s an organization to address this called, “The Coalition for Burned Churches”:
In Alabama, 11 churches have been burned this month. All are Baptist, with an almost equal division of predominantly white and predominantly black congregations.
“The activities in Alabama is not new for Alabama,” said Rose Johnson-Mackey, the coalition’s program director. “The cluster burnings really did get (people’s) attention, but it’s been going on in Alabama for quite some time, and not only in Alabama but throughout the South.”
From 1990 to 2000, some 1,507 churches burned and were labeled either arson, attempted arson, suspicious or undetermined, Johnson-Mackey said. From 2000 to 2006, the coalition documented a “minimum” number of 600 church burnings.
Its a huge number, though it should be noted that in their count of Churches, that does include some Mosques and Synagogues. However, according to a 2002 report the breakdown of burned Churches for 1999-2001 was as follows:
Caucasion Churches-303
Black Churches-167
Multi Racial-62
Synagogues-24
Hispanic Churches-22
Mosques-9
I guess the other 80 something fall into an “other” category. Still, its quite a shock to realize that in America we’ve got this big of a problem. I’d also point out that the statistics indicate what’s going on isn’t racial.
There’s clearly some orchestrated stuff going on or if its not orchestrated, there’s enough anti-religious terrorists out there. Where is the priority of the Bush Administration? Consider that between the US and Canada, there have been 194 Abortion Clinic Bombing, Arson, Attempted Bombing or Arson between 1989-2004 (in Canada and the US), compared to 254 at Houses of Worship in 1999 alone.
Where’s the sense of priority? Where’s the media indictments of those who attack Christianity and incite the bombing of houses of worship by doing so? Its time to raise awareness and I’m doing my part.

Astounding numbers, Adam. And you know, I bet the ACLU could see it to defend the perpetrators, somehow defending their right of free speech.
Thanks for the tb to my open post.
