The Newt Also Rises

The Washington Times points out that Newt Gingrich won a recent straw poll in Minnesota. There’ve been a lot of whispers about a Gingrich comeback and his book tours have that flavor.
A couple things to remember about Mr. Newt. First and foremost, the man is not trustworthy. If a man cannot keep his marriage vows, he cannot be trusted. Gingrich left both wife #1 and wife #2 in serious health problems. His first wife he left on a hospital bed. The second he left after she developed MS, phoning in the divorce decision to the woman who’d stood by him during his tumultuous years as speaker. He then married his mistress, a Congressional staffer 20 years his junior.
Can you say sleezeball? I knew you could.
Add to that his actual record. Newt was a great guerilla warrior, but stank as a leader. If you want to complain about the GOP’s tilt towards liberalism on economic issues, remember it was Newt who started busting the budget caps and according to Senator Tom Coburn, he cornered opponents, people who stood up for fiscal responsibility and attacked them.
He turned the Government shutdown in which Clinton refused to agree to balance the budget in 7 years in a PR disaster for the Republicans with his petulent whining about where he sat on Air Force I to honor Yitshack Rabin.
If you want to find out why the GOP lost seats in 1998, you can blame Newt who operated under the belief that the GOP could spend like drunken sailors and the base would come out to help them impeach Clinton. Newt sold us out long ago, and now for him to come back like this insults my intelligence. Its like hiring the guy who pushed the cart down the hill to stop it from hitting the bottom.
Newt talks a good game, but don’t believe it.
Newt Gingrich
