Bloggers to TTLB: You’re Not Google
Posted by Adam Graham in : GeneralDon Surber has word that Truth Laid Bear is going to start cracking down on Open Trackback parties and not counting those links towards the TLLB ecosystem standings.
Now, this matters very little to the audience at home. Its mostly an inside-blogging thing, as Bloggers want to have it say on the side panel of their blog one day:
Adam’s Blog
is a Higher Being
In the TLLB Ecosystem
Now, exactly how this enhances the reader’s experience, I don’t know. But it would be so cool to be one of the Top 10 blogs and at the rate I’m going, I should make it in about 8 months. Well until TTLB stepped in.
In addition, TTLB’s reasoning for this comes from his idea that these linkfests constitute “Spam”. Well, this raises some interesting questions.
What about Blog Carnivals? Including the one’s TTLB lists in his Ubercarnivals. Do these also constitute spam?
And what about the Random Acts of coolness where I just sit down and start randomly linking at interesting people or other people just start randomly linking at blogs figuring they’ll get hits and maybe links back.
Regardless, there’s a number of good reasons to continue Trackback parties as usual.
1) It’ll show TTLB.
2) While it won’t do anything for your ranking in the Ecosystem, it’ll do something for your Technorati ranking. While I jumped from about 4,000 and something to 800 something in rankings with TLLB. In Technoratti I jumped from around #270,000 to about #19,984. Now, a 250,000 blog jump isn’t something to sneeze at.
After all, other than the fact that its really cool to have a high TLLB ranking, what does it matter? Trackbacks and links are good because they generate hits. Don Surber’s sitting there with 150,000 + hits on his site. I’ve had about a thousand and I’ve only had Site Meter up for eight days.
Folks, if you link to people, you get hits, you get eyeballs on your page and if you sign up with one of the Open Trackback providers that’s also going to get counted in the precious TLLB system.
So, I’m going to continue to be a place where bloggers can get read, and regardless of what my TTLB ranking is, there’s going to be eyeballs on this site and link backs and a high Technoratti ranking, so keep on Trackbacking.

Well, that figures. We can’t even get the trackbacks working yet and they’re going to end the party before we can get there. It’s because we’re yaks, isn’t it…

I think its because of my Scot heritage. They’re wanting to keep us Scotties down.
