Thoughts on the Golden Flopas
Posted by Adam Graham in : cultural sewageThe Golden Compas had a weak $25 million week to open it’s theatrical run and then finished a distant third this weekend with $9 million (the top film was “I am Legend” which racked up $75.5 million, followed by Alvin and the Chipmunks which earned $45 million.) How bad was Golden Compass’ opening two weekends?
Evan Almighty, largely considered a flop of the Summer box office earned $7 millions more on its opening weekend and $6 million more on its second weekend. Given that Evan Almighty finished with $100.2 million domestically, it’s a good bet that this $180 million film will end up grossing less than $100 million domestically, but may be saved from total financial ruin by the International box office.

Clayton Cramer points out that the movie’s big problem is that it couldn’t find an audience, Ferdy provides a review from a Non-Christian perspective and Blue Collar Muse reports that God’s still alive and well even after he went to see the movie.
