Troubling Signs for Huckabee

Posted by Adam Graham in : Presidential Race 2008

Mike Huckabee’s liberal streak continues to show. First, he’s calling for a national ban on smoking in public places and for representation for the District of Columbia in Congress.

Governor, have you read the Constitution? Article 1, Section 8 lays out the powers of Congress, and banning smoking in public places fits nowhere into that discussion. Also, Article 1, Section 2 of the Constitution clearly states:

The House of Representatives shall be composed of Members chosen every second Year by the People of the several States

Guess what, the District of Columbia isn’t a State? So giving DC a Congressman fundamentally violates the Constitution.

So, let’s get this straight, we got a candidate who’s great on the social issues but doesn’t have a clue as to conservative economic principles or the Constitution. I’d say it was like having Gary Bauer run after two terms as governor of a small state, but that wouldn’t be very kind—to Gary Bauer.
