Welcome, Statesman Readers

The blog made the Idaho Statesman again regarding the Democrats euphoria about Republicans raising money for Bill Sali:

“Given Kos’ success in picking winners in elections, this is actually good news for Bill Sali,” wrote Garden City conservative Adam Graham on his blog. Graham may be in the majority on the ground in Idaho, but his views are still a distinct minority among Idaho bloggers, who lean left.

“Larry Grant may choose to believe that he who has the most bloggers wins, but I think he’ll be proven wrong in November,” Graham wrote.

Good quote. And of course, Greg’s right, I’m outnumbered about 12:1 which about makes things fair. ;)

Seriously the best news for Idaho Democrats is Republicans raising money for Sali. That’s followed by a political hack in California that tends to wade in for such far left candidates as Ned Lamont talking about this race.

Oh, but the news is yet to come according to Jill Kuratis:

Vice-President Dick Cheney will travel to Boise on August 16th for a fundraiser for 1st Congressional District candidate Bill Sali…

They must be nervous indeed to send Cheney, who is wildly popular among Republican hard-liners and will no doubt raise buckets of money. The Grant campaign will have to work hard to overcome the dollar deficit that will create.

Ladies and gentlemen, what spin! If you have the Vice-President coming out, its not because Republicans are “nervous indeed.” There’s one main reason for this: the Sali campaign has made some connections and that we believe its important to hold this seat.

Of course, its a concern, but its not because we have a poor candidate. If we’d put up a poor candidate and this seat was close to loss or Sali’s personality made it so we were going to lose it, then I doubt you’d see national Republicans this concerned. Mr. Grant is a man with means and this an open seat. He’s already spent $12,000 and loaned himself another $55,000. I think Bill Sali is well aware that he’s not a Household name, and he’s running against an opponent who can spend a large sum from his personal fortune.

What KOS wants this to mean is that the Republicans are in so much trouble, they’re having to worry about a house seat in Idaho, what the Democrats in Idaho what this to mean is Larry Grant has a great shot.

What it actually means is that Sali is running a strong, fundamental campaign that’s drawing Republican support. They’re making intelligent decisions and building towards victory. By the way, the Statesman’s story had the first poll in the race showing Sali with a 41-25% lead. Democrats will point to the 34% undecided as their peace of good news, completely missing the point that to actually win, they’d have to win the undecided about 3:1. Of course, I wouldn’t put a whole lot of stock in a poll with only 218 respondents. So, at last, I end with some actual good news for the Democrats. :)
