What Brandi Was Standing For

Posted by Adam Graham in : Christianity

Alan at Idablue missed the point of Brandi Swindell’s recent protest and arrest at the White House over the arrest of a Falun Gong supporter/reporter. After showing Falun Gong is not compatible with Christianity, he writes:

One, Swindell embraces faith regardless of the beliefs. She supports Christianity, of course, and apparently Islam, Buddism (Falun Gong is primarliy Buddhist), and other faiths. Or two, she is doing this not because she really supports faith but rather because she is trying to promote herself and the Brandi Swindell brand.

Actually, while Alan might accuse me of merely trying to promote myself as a Press Secretary in a future Brandi Swindell Administration, I think he misses the point. The point of Brandi’s protest was not an agreement with the beliefs of Falun Gong. The point was religious freedom.

The left in this nation lowers the bar for religious domination to a level of sillyness. People are being imposed upon if there’s a Cross on a hill or a Ten Commandments monument. Its not really being infringed on. Freedom of religion doesn’t mean freedom just for religions that are right, but those that are wrong.

No, Falun Gong doesn’t hold answers for eternal salvation and it misunderstands the problem of man. That doesn’t mean its practictioners should have their organs harvested. Alan’s argument assumes support for religious freedom requires agreement with its tenets. Its simply not the case. Brandi was supporting freedom from persecution for everyone, not just people she agreed with.

Are you saying that Ms. Swindell is an activist for freedom from persecution? If so, I’d expect to see her demonstrating is support of all kinds of persecuted minorities, including homosexuals. Clearly not the case.

I think you’re saying that she is supporting freedom from religious persecution. Let people worship and believe as they please.

If she truly supports this, where was she when the Idaho Humanists were kicked off the front of the Statehouse steps in favor of a Christian group?

Ms. Swindell’s main causes are anti-abortion, and “sexual integrity.” Supporting the Falun Gong as well is fine, but since it is unrelated to her main causes there must be some reason to support it, as it takes her away from her main mission.

Self promotion is also fine, as long as it is recognized as such. See my post about Bryan “Al Sharpton” Fischer and his self promotion. The same points apply to Ms. Swindell.

I think Alan, your problem is that you miss the main point of what Brandi’s all about. She’s about standing for righteousness in the public square, including not imprisoning people for their beliefs. In your mind in order to support any rights for anyone oppressed, you have to support gay marriage.
