What Do Idaho and Nepal Have In Common
Posted by Adam Graham in : Idaho Conservative, TheYou don’t think Idaho and Nepal, the world’s most newest Democracy would have a lot in common, but here’s one thing:
KATMANDU, Nepal – Nepalese authorities have banned the production and sale of alcohol in the Himalayan nation ahead of crucial elections to pick an assembly to rewrite the country’s constitution, officials said Friday.
Home Ministry spokesman Modraj Dotel said the government has sent notices to all district administration offices informing them that they should impose the ban ahead of next week’s election. An alcohol ban in Katmandu went into effect Friday.
The odd thing is that Idaho has a similar law. As Bill Jempty points out at Wizbang, Nepal’s laws are ineffective as people can buy up alcohol before the election. Same thing goes for Idaho. You’d really have to ban people from drinking on election day to have any hope of obtaining the desired results and that would be too big govermentish for most folks as few people want the government watching them to see if they’ll drink. Maybe Idaho’s law has saved many lives by stopping hundreds of candidates of losing candidates from going to a bar and drinking themselves to death or preventing riots by people who’d get roaring drunk, but weren’t planning to have alcohol on election night. Somehow, though, I doubt it.
