Why Bill Sali #3: Support for Traditional Values and America Culture
Posted by Adam Graham in : Idaho Conservative, TheValues are tossed around quite a bit in today’s politics. I want to avoid sounding completely hollow when I discuss Bill Sali’s support for traditional American values. Often the argument will be made that what matters are the pocketbook issues of taxes, spending, and jobs.
These issues are of great importance to our state and our nation. But are they the be all and end all? Absolutely not.
A people is more than it’s economic prosperity. Indeed, history is full of nations that enjoyed great wealth at one level or another, but their societies suffered under injustice and treachery.
If all that mattered were things: money, convenience, and jobs, there’d be very few people living in Idaho. We couldn’t get a lawyer, a doctor, or an engineer to seriously think about moving to Idaho if it were all about money, because they earn far less out here. Why then do they come?
People will talk about wanting somewhere they can raise their children without the problems incumbent with New York or Los Angeles. People aren’t seeking money when they come to Idaho, they’re seeking a safe place. People move to Idaho because of it’s people and their values.
It’s these values Bill Sali will defend in Washington. He gets it. He understand that we’re not measured just by the size of our bank account, but the content of our character. He understands that we need to be a culture that affirms the value of innocent human life, traditional marriage, and respect for the role of God and faith in our nation’ s life while respecting the religious liberty of all citizens.
His support for controlling our borders for making English our official language is more than a wedge issue. It’s about who we are as a people. On a practical level, securing our borders is about our nation’s security and economy, but it is also about the preservation of America as a nation. A nation without borders is no nation at all.
Bill Sali doesn’t support the creation of a new permanent underclass of guest workers, but believes that we should encourage and help all immigrant to learn English and recognize it as our Official language, because it’s the language of opportunity. It’s not a move made out of spite, but based on the fact that his father entered school and learned English, which allowed him to succeed in life.
English as our official language strengthens our unity as a people and an effort to encourage immersion in the English language will open doors of opportunity for all of our citizens. Bill Respect for human life, marriage, faith, and our nation’s language, culture, and borders is just another reason why I stand proudly in support of him in this race.
